Transit Sales and Use Tax

Texas has six metropolitan transit authorities (MTAs), two city transit departments (CTDs), one county transit authority (CTA) and one advanced transportation district (ATD) that impose a sales and use tax. These authorities, their appropriate tax rates, and the participating cities and areas in each transit area are shown below.

Austin MTA
  • Local code - 3227999
  • Rate - 1% (.010000)
  • Effective - July 1, 1985
  • Participating cities and areas:
    • Austin
    • Jonestown
    • Lago Vista
    • Leander
    • Manor
    • Point Venture
    • San Leanna
    • The unincorporated area of southern Williamson County including Anderson Mill, Jollyville, and Pond Springs.
    • Parts of unincorporated northwestern, central and northeastern Travis County.
    • The following cities have withdrawn from the MTA:
      • West Lake Hills effective September 30, 1988.
      • Rollingwood effective March 31, 1989.
      • Cedar Park effective June 30, 1999.
      • Pflugerville effective June 30, 2000.
      • Volente effective September 30, 2017.
    • The Travis County ESD 14 withdrew effective June 30, 2017.
Corpus Christi MTA
