Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, the U.S. Department of the Treasury began accepting Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reports as required under the Corporate Transparency Act. A BOI report contains information about individuals who own or control companies doing business in the United States.

BOI reports should be filed with the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) through its online Beneficial Ownership Secure System (BOSS). The reports cannot be filed through the Comptroller’s Office or the Texas Secretary of State.

Don’t confuse BOI Reports with Texas Public Information or Ownership Information reporting.

Now is the time to renew Cigarette, Cigar and/or Tobacco Products Retailer Permits for 2024-2026. The fastest and easiest way to renew is electronically via our Webfile system. Permits for the current period expire May 31, 2024. We recommend submitting your renewal application by April 22, 2024, to ensure you receive your new permit by June 1.

It’s easy to renew your retail tobacco and e-cigarette permits online.

1. Go to Webfile-eSystems Login.
2. Sign in or create a profile as a first-time user.
3. Scroll down and select "eSystems Services."
4. Select "See More."
5. Select "Access Cigarette, Tobacco and/or E-Cigarette Services."
6. Select "Account Maintenance."
7. Enter your 11-digit taxpayer number.
8. Enter your Webfile number (begins with RT and is located at the top left of your renewal form).
9. Check the "I agree" box, and then select continue.
10. Select the tile for the business and renewal type you are renewing.
11. Complete the online form.

If you are unable to complete your renewal via Webfile, then:

• Complete the renewal packet that was mailed to you.
• If you do not have a renewal packet available, complete an original application in place of the renewal and write "renewal" at the top of the page. Depending on the permit(s) you need, use:
  • Form AP-242, Texas Application for E-cigarette Retailer Permit (PDF), and/or;
  • Form AP-193, Texas Application for Retailer Cigarette, Cigar and/or Tobacco Products Taxes Permit (PDF).
• Be sure to mail payment along with the form(s) to the address specified on the form.
• Please allow 4-6 weeks processing time for this option.
